my best friend, samantha brought me to restoran malaysia and the satay there is just one of the best. *thumbs up* the ratio of meat is much lesser than the fats; in fact, sometimes its just all meat though the peanut sauce is not that well done.

Kajang! The place i was born at! ^^ (at which hospital or klinik i forget but i noe it sounds indian)Kajang ah, although im from kajang i jarang makan satay. Kajang ah, is a very hot, crowded and busy town (in the town la tat is) my housing area is nice! kajang ah, many thg happen in kajang lah. kajang also very traffic jam sometimes, because got ppl kedekut duwan use silk highway come use the kajang road make ppl jam until take so long time to go home from school! Then some ppl dunno how 2 carpool, one big car send one tiny kid, but the tiny kid got giant school bag! The river in kajang also so yellow, if i scoop some put in gelas, u might even drink it n tink its teh tarik!!! Last time kajang was voted one of the dirtiest place in malaysia, Tat was last time lah according to memory, but soon later, the mpkj start decorating the town like mad n cleaning up like mad, flowers here n dere n nice lamp, but sometime wen u c those potted plant u wonder, how long more? (how long can it last, wilting case u noe) but on certain place, the plant damn green n flower mmg banyak, the police station garden is pretty!! yeah.... and u noe wat, kajang is close to Kl, certain mamak stall ppl can't speak english, u noe i so big person born in kajng dunno kajang, the only time i really get to WALK around kajang is wen u walk all over town to look for a hula hoop. tatz rite, all the sports shop n even the cziplee dun haf hula hoop, (in parkson got 1 or 2 FOR KIDS) some ppl in kajang is very nice, dey tell me all kind of place to buy it, some we go ledy, some impossible we go cause weather is hot n destination is far, therefore kajang do have some nice ppl.Kajang also quite some many school. historical school tim! Like convent lah, high school lah, n even yu hua, tis kind of school dated wayyyyyy back in history! Convent is a prestigious school u noe! somehow, the primary convent student which is getting into smk is not as layak as dey shuld b~ but as a convent i must not spread the bad stuff world wide lah, i so tak puas hati of the convent juniors! (if dey r transfer nvm lah, but dey originate from the convent primary!!) Kajang also got stadium kajang, i mean, not all places got stadium, so we have stadium kajang =D Besides, kajang is a gr8 place because it got GREAT ppl like me *smiles widely!* therefore, u shuld love kajang because how can u love anything but kajang!!! Back to food case, although kajang is famous for satay and everything there are many nice food in kajang other than satay too!! (but u must noe wer to eat lah) dun see those place big n nice den the food is nice like the proverb, dun judge the book by its cover, go market place ah, or those HIDDEN place, those kinda place ussually have nice food, but they lack air-cond lah u noe. But hey, nice food got a price to pay! the price for food is reasonable lah. Therefore, i hereby conclude, u gotta love kajang! because tatz wer i live!

about satay,i like malaysia restaurant too,the one near rhb bank... i've been there recently~~ n now they hav all sorta satays includin the usual ones(chicken/mutton/beef) ,duck, fish and sthn i forgot...
yeah,i juz realised that kajangs also famous for its Lat Tong(hot soup), really!! its strange, but there WERE ppl who walked around kajang asking for the best place for lat tong... and my fren once asked me " so everyday minum lat tong lah in kajang??" when i told him im living in kajang... strange but true~ i doubt everyone know about dat~~ XD

And about schooling in kajang, my dad use to tell me about his old time stories where u get to eat 'ice balls' for 5 sen and all sorta cheap food around town... theres also stalls at the spot before metro kajang was built~~ and theres a rojak+ cendol stall run by sum indian guys, they've moved to jalan reko, the house dat sells 2nd hand cars~~ they r still sellin rojak + cendol there!!~^^

andddd, speakin about rojak, anyone tried the mamak stall near mobil petrol station?? the one on the way to semenyih,it opens only at nite, the mee rojak there memang damn best!! its a must try for kajang ppl!! dat place is always crowded wif ppl sum how, its cny now,12.08am,i think it should be crowded with ppl now too~~ memang mamak legend lahhh XD

i'll stop for now... someone asked me to do so...although i know shes 'won'...nvm,give face oni lohhh~~

To anonymous,

You have got to be kidding! Lost in Kajang for 2 hours....

'Lat tong' in Kajang? There are a few but my favourite is somewhere along Mendaling Street. Turn into the left lane after the shop, Wing Television. It is the last 'stall' on the left along this short lane. Also serves very good 'fah tiu' chicken, 'wong chau' (rice wine) chicken, curry laksa and sometimes, 'Hakka yong tow foo". Check this place out. Closed on Thursdays. Enjoy!

Kajang, lots of place to makan if you know where.....

If anyone still remember Tai Wah Restaurant that is at the corner before turning to Convent Girl School, they are famous for Loh Mee, Shark Fin Soup, Pig Brain Soup, they have reopen by the son and grand son in Sungai Chua, opposite the Dewan.

I agreed with Cindy, the best Hot Soup in town is the one in Mendaling Street. The best of the best. Not only that, the price is the most reasonable.

After makan, you will definately go back for more and bungkus lagi. Try it and you can comment.

having grown up in kajang town in the 60s and 70s, i recognise the streets in the black and white picture taken in the 60s immediately. the bridge and river helps.i could see my father's shop in jln mendaling and then our house in jln tengah. so to answer your question jane, the picture shows that part of the town. post office, town hall, jln mendaling, jln tengah, jln tukang, jln besar of course and jln sulaiman. and that's all to it, kajang town in those days. great pic i am feeling nostalgic now.

Kajang town in the 1990s, rightly before the massive development starts to kick in - from the view of a 7 year old..

My family moved into Kajang town in 1988 of when I'm a 3 yr old, I guess I'm still lucky enough to enjoy the Kajang town when it was still peaceful although i'm still a little kid. I remember there were no shop lots nearby convent school, the shop lots row of the current Market, McDonald, Czip Lee. It used to be like a very very long journey (i'm in standard 1 in SKK) from the end of Jalan Bukit to Kajang town. Have to passed the Jalan Bukit school and then there was like a forest (its rubber tree I guess) before reaching the junction into Jalan Sg Chua, the junction where the old fire station was. As I grew older, together with the development throughout jalan Bukit, it looks really like a very very short distance to Kajang town. My housing area, Taman Bukit used to be the end of Kajang's housing area along jalan Bukit, the back of my house was like rubber tree forest but now, there's Kajang Utama, and taman bukit mewah i dont know what phase is it, with the SILK highway. There were birds flying into kajang town and sit along the roof of shop lots in Jalan Suleiman and jalan Besar on the evening of specific days, thats when my parents hated to park the car along these streets. The birds chirping happily and loudly on the roof top makes Kajang town sounds like a carnival as the dusk sets in. And there was kedai chapati razak along jalan reko, the best chapati there was. And I remembered there was a pasar ramadhan on the ground of Czip lee, where there was one good yong tau fuu seller, he can cut those long koay teow in such a marvellous speed.

Satay Kajang Haji Samuri - A monopoly??

I guess the satay in Kajang have been totally monopollied by Haji Samuri which I feel is not good. Almost half of the shop lots in medan sate kajang now is own by Haji Samuri. As Haji Samuri is operating on a very large scale business, the quality of the satay tend to be overlooked. Do you notice that the satay in Haji Samuri are already pre cooked, which were only reheated when ordered, maybe it saves a lot of time but the taste of the true satay is'nt there much anymore. The heat of the satay doesnt goes rightly through the meat, its just hot outside but cold in the inside. I hope you get what I mean. You should try to eat in one of the small stalls left, surviving, waiting to be crushed by Haji Samuri in the medan sate kajang. A monopoly market can cause huge impact on the quality of a product - think about it!!

I have been looking for an opportunity to blog about where else to get sweet juicy charcoal grilled Satay. There are many good recommendations on the Satay King in Aked Mara which is next to Metro Plaza.

Hi, read all of the comments made...my mom is born and bred in Kajang. She always said to me "Kajang people dont eat at Haji Samuri's satay"..better eat else where like PEMADAM or in the rural areas like Semenyih or Sungai Kantan (which is at the back of TESCO). Great gravy there but unfortunately the shop only open on certain days! One thing for sure they always open on weekends! You also can request if you want it crispy or not..its a kampung business so they always tend to please their customers. You should try it there..

the biggest satay stall in kajang is 'haji samuri' beside the stadium kajang in bangunan dato nazir..but that is for people outside kajang..for kjg ppl they always know where is the best stall..different ppl has different taste..so everyone has their favorite satay..beside stadium..medan satay in front of stadium..beside metro kjg..prima saujana near giant..so there various version of satay just have to pick which one fit your stomach..good luck
