Barbecued Chicken, Duck and Pork or Chicken Rice - Kajang Food

Years even before western fast food came into existence, Malaysians already started on the many varieties of Asian food available throughout the day and night and in many towns and cities. In Kajang town which is famously known as the 'Satay Town' where travelers will stop to enjoy the barbecued meat skewed with a short stick. There is another type of barbecued meat which others have slowly come to enjoy is the 'char siew fun' or 'char siew kai'.

Tucked away in a coffee shop next to Kajang's wet market is a stall called 'Leck Kee' which is actually a branch of the 'Leck Kee' of Semenyih Town. It operates during lunch hour from 11.00am to 3.00pm and are sold out usually by 2.00pm. Patrons sometimes have to queue for a table and sometimes a long queue for take away orders. The shops here used to be from Kajang Bazaar ( aerial view of Kajang town, the right hand side of the round about) and consists of many small eateries, sticker shop, newspaper, barber etc..

The 'char siew' or roasted pork belly is a mixture of fats and lean meat has a nice dark reddish colour and authentic tastes. Other than this dish you can try the 'char siew kai' (barbecue chicken), 'char siew up' (barbecue duck) and 'siew nyoke' (roast pork). Once you arrived at this stall you can't help noticing the stall owner with his stylish dyed hair. He can be quite snappy when your order is confusing to him or when there is a long queue but having our meal here on many occasions you find him sometimes amusing. He is also known as 'half chicken' or 'pun chaq kai' to many of his patrons, he got his name by being a member of the Batang Kajang Hash House Harriers club (will post a story about the Hash clubs of Kajang later).

Hi YK Low, Julian here. Quite a good blog there, keep up the good work. Keep posting more about food, because that's what I'll always think of when i travel. I'm still slim, and I hope my visceral fat won't go up... haha.

Hullo!
Just wanted to let you know what a good job you're doing with this blog:) This is super-awesome, even more so for Kajang-ites who are away from home. The entry about the chicken rice/char siu dude was really great!! I had a good laugh because I remember how crazy his hair is and how grumpy he occasionally gets, and also because he's been wanting to buy my parents' good ol jeep. LoL. The videos about the fire was crazy, and it was hilarious hearing people speaking in Hakka - don't get me wrong, I'm a Hakka meself, but being away for so long made it real funny:) Thanks a lot for the updates, Mr. Low.

Keep it comin!!

That video was absolutely hilarious! This was a superb idea...I wonder if you will go around Kajang town asking for interviews. Maybe a coffee shop or something!Great great interview session, I didn't quite understand everything due to my rusty Hakka/Canto but I got the funny moments:)

Looking forward to more funny vids!

This guy got other name such as Ham Sap Lou or Kam Mou(golden hair). He is called hamsap coz he cannot control himself whenever leng lui come and buy any rice and neglected those ppl queing in line. This guy also have a habit of being nice to the "who's who" in Kajang that is like the ex-big boss of the Securities Firm located within walking distance to his shop. You can check out the pix that he paste on the glass of his stall, thats the guy.
His chicken rice is like too rich or too oily and his pork is questionable in taste.

Has anyone tried the newly opened Kafe Kitchen Wonderland located just a few shops before this chicken rice shop? This is the cleanest eatery shop around this area and attracts quite a lot of people everyday. The cafe is selling nasi lemak, nyonya kueh, cheese tart, fruit tart, tong sui, etc. Every lunch hour there is a special dish. I have tried a few days, the special dishes are just fantastic!!! It makes me looking forward to take lunch in this cafe everyday as the dishes are different everyday and has created a feeling of curiousity of what is going to be my luch today !!!

This chicken rice shop... mmm... the way of preparation is not hygiene at all. Look at the rice cooker...look at the oil that is used to deep fry the chicken and meat..., the preparation is just at the side of a drain.
